A Time
for Everything
"There is a time for everything. There’s a time for everything that is done on earth."
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIrV)
Sian sat by her window, staring out at the gray afternoon sky. A half-empty cup of tea had gone cold on the table beside her, but she didn’t care. Her mind was somewhere else—back in a time when everything felt easier, when life was bursting with color, music, and laughter.
She missed the freedom of her youth. The nights dancing under neon lights, the thrill of new friendships, the way the world seemed to stretch out before her, full of promise. Back then, she didn’t have to worry about mortgage payments, aching joints, or the quiet loneliness that sometimes filled her home. Her parents had been her safety net, and now they were gone. So were the days of reckless abandon and endless possibilities.
The present felt… small. Routine. Heavy.
Sian sighed and reached for her phone, scrolling through old photos—images of her in bright, daring outfits, her friends grinning beside her, the glow of youth in their eyes. She wished she could step back into those pictures, just for a moment, just to feel that energy again.
But then, a thought crept into her mind. What if the best wasn’t behind me? What if I stopped looking back and started looking forward?
She glanced at her bookshelf and pulled out an old Bible her mother had given her. She hadn’t opened it in years, but something nudged her to do it now. Flipping through the pages, her eyes landed on Ecclesiastes 3:1: "There is a time for everything. There’s a time for everything that is done on earth."
A time for everything.
Maybe her youth had been a season—a beautiful, wild season—but it wasn’t the only one. Maybe God still had more for her. Maybe the next chapter of her life wasn’t meant to be a slow fade into nothingness but a different kind of adventure. One filled with wisdom, deeper connections, and a purpose beyond chasing fleeting thrills.
She closed her eyes and whispered, “God, help me stop mourning the past and start embracing what You have for me now.”
For the first time in a long while, she felt something shift inside her. A quiet hope. A belief that there was still more ahead.
Prayer:
Lord, sometimes I long for the past, for the days when life felt exciting and full of promise.
But You remind me that every season has its time, and You are not done with me yet.
Help me to trust in the future You have planned, to find joy in today, and to walk with faith into whatever comes next.
Thank You for being with me in every season.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
