Defeating Death on The Cross

The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) contain accounts of Jesus' crucifixion.

The core overview of Jesus' saving Gospel is found in this Bible story. In Mark, Jesus predicted that he will die.

Jesus realized that he would have to give up his life as a sacrifice for man's sins.

Numerous Jews began to believe in Jesus as Messiah, the Son of God, at the pinnacle of his ministry and wonders.

The Crucifixion

Because of his growing following, Jewish leaders hated Jesus. Roman soldiers captured Jesus with the aid of Judas Iscariot, and he was tried for pretending to be the Jewish king. The uprising against the king was punishable by crucifixion under Roman law.

When it came to Jesus' execution, the Roman governor Pontius Pilate was hesitant. Pilate couldn't see anything wrong with Jesus, but he wanted to offer the people what they desired, which was Jesus' death. Pilate cleaned his hands in front of the audience to show that he was not responsible for Jesus' bloodshed and then handed him over to be battered and lashed.

Jesus was forced to wear a crown of thorns and bear his cross along the road to the hill where he'd be crucified. Calvary is the name given to the site of Jesus' crucifixion, which means "a place of skull."

Bible Quote

Then Jesus began to teach his disciples: “The Human One must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and the legal experts, and be killed, and then, after three days, rise from the dead.”

Mark 8:31

Part of the Plan

Crowds had assembled to mourn and witness the death of Jesus. Among two criminals, Jesus was nailed to the cross and had his sides cut by a sword. One of the criminals asked Jesus to acknowledge him when Jesus was ridiculed, and Jesus replied, "Truly I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."

"Forgive them," Jesus said, gazing up to heaven, "for they do not know what they're doing,” Jesus said, looking up to heaven. "Father, into your hands I pledge my soul is over," Jesus said as he took his final breath.

The death of Jesus was characterized by extraordinary occurrences. When Jesus hung on the cross, the sky was totally dark for three hours. The ground shook, the temple curtain broke from top to bottom, and the shrines of saints were uncovered and their bodies lifted from the dead at the time of his last breath.

The crucifixion of Jesus was always a part of God's plan from the moment he was born. Mankind's sin will necessitate a sacrifice. Jesus lived and gave his sinless life so that man could be saved and have everlasting life in heaven.

The Foundation.

The Christian faith is founded on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The belief in God's saving grace through Jesus is broken without the resurrection.

When Jesus emerged from the dead, he proved his divinity and his mission of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. The resurrection was a physical, real-life resurrection of Jesus' body from the dead.

Jesus Lives

Jesus' body was wrapped in linen clothing and put in a tomb with a large stone placed across the entrance after his death. Mary Magdalene and another Mary arrived at the tomb on the third day, early Sunday morning, to find it bare.

An angel of the Lord sat on the rolled away stone, telling them not to be scared because Jesus had risen. Jesus Christ approached the women as they were leaving to inform the disciples and showed them his nail-pierced hands.

He also appeared to the other 500 people, in addition to the 12 disciples. Jesus stayed with his followers for about 40 days after his reincarnation. Then Jesus ascended into heaven, leaving them in what is known as "the Ascension."

Bible Quote

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though they die. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26

Why Did Jesus Have To Die?

The cross is at the heart of the tale of God and his love for the world. For the sake of the world, we see Jesus happily go to his death. We witness the murder of an innocent citizen at the hands of a criminal. When we consider the tragedy of the cross, we are left with the question, “Why did Jesus have to die?”

Why did Jesus go through so much? As we read the account of Jesus' crucifixion, you may wonder, "Why did Jesus do this for me?"

How Sin Separates Us From God

Human beings have been corrupted by sin since Adam and Eve turned their backs on God in the Garden of Eden. We choose to disregard God's wishes in favor of doing what we want. We have our eyes set on gaining power and riches for ourselves, and we neglect to care for what God has given us.

Our sin has made it impossible for us to find our way back to God on our own. And because of God's righteousness, we must pay a price for our sin.

Despite our shortcomings, God loves us and longs for us to return to him. Jesus, God's Son, came to earth to make it possible for us to be reconciled to God.

Jesus Reunites Us With God Through His Sacrifice

To pay the debt for their sins, the people of Israel used a sacrifice scheme in the Old Testament. The types of sacrifices needed to atone for various sins were decided by God's rules. The majority of living sacrifices were supposed to be flawless creatures.

Jesus, God's Son, arrived on earth in the New Testament to reconcile us to God through the supreme sacrifice: his own life.

On our own, we will never live a life worthy of God. As a result, Jesus lived a sinless life on our behalf. Then he died the agonizing death that our sins deserved.
