The Truth

in Integrity

“The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”
Proverbs 12:22 (NIrV)

Kelsey sat hunched over his laptop, the glow of the screen illuminating his face. The deadline for his essay on male transgender athletes competing in women’s sports was fast approaching, and his thoughts were tangled in frustration. He had decided to use an AI chatbot to help him craft his ideas—after all, it was supposed to make everything easier, right? But as he typed in his questions, he was starting to feel uneasy.

The AI’s responses seemed biased, almost as if it was pushing a particular viewpoint. Kelsey had asked for a neutral perspective on the topic, but what he got in return seemed to favor one side of the debate—specifically the idea that male athletes transitioning into women’s sports should have full access. He felt his frustration grow with each new response. "Why can’t I get a balanced answer?" he muttered under his breath, glancing at the clock. Time was ticking, and he still had so much work to do.

His eyes darted across the essay, trying to piece together his arguments. He had worked hard to form a well-rounded viewpoint, to present both sides with the respect and fairness they deserved. But the AI seemed to filter out the nuances that mattered. It felt like the chatbot was more interested in offering a pre-determined answer than helping him explore the complexity of the issue.

"Why does it always lean left?" Kelsey thought, his fingers clenching around the keyboard in frustration. "Is this really what I’m supposed to be using for help?" He knew deep down that he wanted to find truth, not just conform to what was easy or popular. As someone who was trying to balance his faith with the realities of the world, he wasn’t comfortable with how the AI seemed to push him in a direction he didn’t agree with.

Kelsey paused, rubbing his temples. A part of him wondered if he was just overreacting. Maybe it wasn’t the AI’s fault—maybe it was his own bias that was making him uncomfortable. But he felt a deep conviction in his heart. He wanted to be honest. He wanted to uphold the truth, not just for the sake of his essay, but because it was important in life. The Lord delights in truth, and Kelsey didn’t want to compromise that principle, even if it meant disagreeing with what was popular or easy.

He paused for a moment of reflection. Maybe it wasn’t the AI that was the issue. Maybe the issue was within him. The words of Proverbs 12:22 echoed in his mind: “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Integrity, Kelsey realized, was about more than just the words he spoke. It was about the honesty and trustworthiness of his heart, even when no one else was watching.

Taking a deep breath, Kelsey deleted the parts of the essay that didn’t reflect his true convictions. He decided to write it from his heart, with honesty and a desire to reflect God's truth, even if it meant standing against the tide. It wasn’t easy, but he knew it was right.

As Kelsey hit the "submit" button, he felt a sense of peace. He had written with integrity, trusting that God would guide him in the process. It was a hard lesson, but one he wouldn’t forget: integrity matters, and truth is always worth pursuing.

Prayer:

Dear God,
Thank You for reminding me that You delight in truth and integrity.

It’s so easy to get caught up in what is popular or convenient, but I know that You are calling me to be honest in every area of my life.

Help me to trust in Your guidance, even when the world or technology pushes me in a different direction.

Teach me to always pursue truth, no matter how difficult it may be.

Please give me the strength to stand firm in my convictions and to live with integrity, so that I can reflect Your love and wisdom in all I do.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
