Breaking Free
from Temptation
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Galatians 5:16 (NIrV)
Sandy sat in her garden, scrolling through social media, her mind filled with confusion. She had always been attracted to men, but recently, her feelings toward her close friend Lily had started to shift. The emotions caught her off guard, and the thoughts were uncharted territory. She had heard people talk about these feelings before, but now she was the one feeling them, and it was a heavy burden on her heart.
She thought about her faith. Sandy had grown up in a Christian home, and she had always believed in God's love. But now, with these feelings emerging, she felt as though her connection to God was fraying. She wanted to explore these feelings, but a voice deep inside reminded her of the principles she had learned from scripture. She thought of the verses she had memorized—about loving God with all her heart and following His will in all things. Was this path aligned with God’s plan for her?
Tears welled up in Sandy’s eyes as she remembered a conversation with her pastor, a conversation that had been simple but life-changing. "God loves you, no matter what you’re going through, but He also calls us to walk according to His Spirit, not our fleshly desires. It’s a difficult journey, but through God’s strength, we can overcome any temptation that draws us away from His love."
Sandy paused, the weight of her decision heavy on her shoulders. She could sense the tug of temptation, the pull of the desires that stirred inside her. But she also remembered the freedom that came from choosing God’s path, even when it seemed difficult.
With a quiet prayer, she whispered, “God, help me to walk by Your Spirit, to resist the temptations of my flesh, and to trust in Your plans for my life. Please guide me toward a heart that seeks Your will above all else.”
In that moment, she felt a peace settle over her heart. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one. Sandy knew that following God’s way would require strength, patience, and faith—but it was the only path that led to true peace and purpose.
Prayer:
Father God, I come before You today, acknowledging the struggles in my heart.
I ask for Your guidance as I navigate the challenges of life.
Help me to walk by Your Spirit, to align my thoughts, emotions, and actions with Your Word.
I know that You love me, and that Your plans for me are good.
Help me to trust You more each day and to find strength in Your truth.
I ask for the wisdom to make decisions that honor You, and the courage to follow You, no matter how difficult it may seem.
Thank You for Your love, Your grace, and Your everlasting presence.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
