Scripture: Exodus 7:14-12:30 (NIV)

In Exodus 7:14-12:30, we witness the unfolding of the ten plagues upon Egypt as God demonstrates His power and authority in delivering His people from bondage. This passage highlights the themes of judgment, redemption, and the sovereignty of God.

In Exodus 7-10, Moses and Aaron confront Pharaoh with God's demand to let the Israelites go, but Pharaoh's heart remains hardened, and he refuses to heed their warnings. In response, God sends a series of devastating plagues upon Egypt, each more severe than the last, to demonstrate His power and compel Pharaoh to release the Israelites.

The ten plagues include turning the Nile River into blood, infesting Egypt with frogs, gnats, flies, livestock disease, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and culminate in the death of the firstborn sons in every household.

One important verse from this passage is Exodus 12:13:

"The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt."

(Exodus 12:13, NIV)

This verse highlights the significance of the Passover, where God instructed the Israelites to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb as a sign of protection. It foreshadows the ultimate redemption through Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, whose blood protects us from the judgment of sin and death.

As we reflect on Exodus 7:14-12:30, we are reminded of God's power to deliver His people from bondage and to bring judgment upon the oppressors. We see His sovereignty over all creation and His faithfulness to fulfill His promises.

Today, we can apply this passage to our lives by trusting in God's deliverance in our own struggles and trials. Just as He delivered the Israelites from Egypt, He promises to deliver us from sin and bondage through Jesus Christ. We can take comfort in His protection and provision, knowing that He is with us in every circumstance.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Your power and deliverance in Exodus 7:14-12:30. Help us to trust in Your sovereignty and faithfulness, knowing that You are able to deliver us from every trial and hardship.

May we find refuge in the blood of Jesus, our Passover Lamb, and experience the freedom and redemption that comes through Him.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
