Finding Meaning
in the Bible
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIrV)
Aaron sat on his couch, Bible open in front of him, but the words felt like a jumbled mess. He had recently given his life to Christ, and although he was excited about his new faith, reading the Bible felt like a chore. Every time he tried to read, his mind wandered, and the verses seemed confusing. His Bible was full of strange names, ancient places, and stories that felt distant from his life. Why was this so hard? Why couldn’t he understand it?
“I guess I’m just not cut out for this,” Aaron thought to himself as he closed the book and tossed it aside. “Everyone says the Bible is important, but it doesn’t make sense to me.”
Aaron’s friend had told him that reading the Bible would help him grow in his faith, but he didn’t know where to start. He had tried different translations, but they all felt equally dense. He often wondered if there was a “correct” way to read the Bible, or if he was simply failing at it.
One evening, as Aaron was scrolling through social media, he saw a post from a well-known pastor that read, “The Bible isn’t just a book. It’s God’s Word, breathed into the hearts of those who read it. It’s meant to shape your life.”
The words struck a chord in Aaron’s heart. He knew the Bible was supposed to be special, but his frustration clouded that understanding. Maybe there was more to it than he realized.
Aaron decided to try again the next morning. He picked up his Bible, this time with a new mindset. As he read through a passage in the book of Psalms, something clicked. The words weren’t just ancient history; they were speaking to him. He was reminded that these were God’s words, intended to teach, correct, and equip him for life.
It was still hard to understand everything, but Aaron knew that God was with him, helping him see the wisdom in the verses. He didn’t need to know everything all at once. He just needed to trust that, little by little, God would reveal the truth to him.
The next Sunday at church, Aaron felt more connected to the message than ever before. He was no longer overwhelmed by the Bible’s complexity, but instead, he embraced the idea that God’s Word would continue to guide him. He prayed quietly to himself, asking God to give him patience and clarity as he read.
"I know it will take time, Lord, but I’m ready. Help me understand Your Word, and teach me how to live by it.”
Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank You for Your Word, which is alive and powerful, and for the reminder that it is meant to teach, correct, and equip me.
I know that I don’t always understand everything I read, but I trust that You will reveal Your truth to me in time.
Please help me to be patient with myself and to continue seeking Your wisdom.
May Your Word guide me in every area of my life, and may I grow stronger in my faith each day.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
