Trusting the
True Source
"Do not look for advice from people who get messages from those who have died. Do not go to people who talk to the spirits of the dead. If you do, you will not remain clean. I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 19:31 (NIrV)
Nora sat cross-legged on the floor of her cozy apartment, surrounded by crystals, candles, and her journal. The air smelled faintly of lavender and sage, and her favorite vinyl record played softly in the background. But despite the calm aesthetic, Nora’s mind was anything but peaceful.
At 34, she felt lost. Her art wasn’t selling, her relationships seemed shallow, and her purpose felt out of reach. She had always considered herself spiritual, open to any path that might offer guidance. That’s why, when her friend suggested seeing a clairvoyant, Nora didn’t hesitate to book an appointment.
The day of her visit, Nora stepped into a small shop filled with shelves of tarot cards, incense, and mysterious symbols. The clairvoyant, a kind woman with piercing eyes, invited her to sit at a round table covered in a deep purple cloth. “The universe has all the answers,” the woman said, shuffling the cards. Nora leaned in, desperate to hear something—anything—that might give her direction.
But as the session began, a strange unease crept into Nora’s heart. While the woman spoke of aligning energies and spirits watching over her, Nora couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. It wasn’t the words; it was the emptiness behind them. The promises of clarity and purpose seemed hollow, like whispers in a void.
After the session, Nora walked home feeling heavier, not lighter. That night, she sat by her window, staring at the stars. “What am I doing wrong?” she whispered. As the night deepened, a memory surfaced—her grandmother reading the Bible to her as a child. Nora hadn’t thought about those stories in years.
She dug out the old Bible her grandmother had given her, the one tucked away in a box. When she opened it, her eyes fell on a passage from Leviticus that she didn’t fully understand but couldn’t ignore: “Do not look for advice from people who get messages from those who have died.”
For the first time, Nora felt the weight of what she had been searching for in all the wrong places. She realized she’d been so focused on quick fixes that she had neglected the only true source of wisdom and peace: God.
That night, Nora hesitated before praying. She hadn’t prayed in years and wasn’t even sure where to start. But in the quiet, she finally said, “God, I don’t know if You’re still there for me, but I need You. I’ve been looking for answers everywhere else, and none of it feels right. Please guide me. Please show me the way.”
The next morning, Nora woke up with a strange sense of peace. The questions in her life weren’t all answered, but she felt less desperate. She started reading her Bible, journaling her prayers, and seeking God’s guidance instead of turning to fleeting spiritual trends. Slowly but surely, Nora discovered that God had been there all along, waiting to lead her if only she would trust Him.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank You for being the source of true wisdom and peace.
Forgive me for seeking answers in places that cannot satisfy my soul.
Like Nora, I want to trust in You alone for guidance and direction.
Help me to turn away from paths that lead me further from You, and draw me closer to Your truth.
Thank You for being patient and for always being there when I call.
Teach me to rely on Your Word and to trust that You have a plan for my life.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
