Trusting

Beyond Fear

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways obey him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIrV)

Mila sat cross-legged on her bed, her laptop glowing in the dimly lit room. The headlines scrolling across the screen filled her with dread. News of wars, government unrest, and advancements in artificial intelligence that sounded more like science fiction than reality made her stomach churn.

“What kind of future is this?” she muttered under her breath, pulling her knees to her chest. As a fifteen-year-old, Mila had always been curious about the world, but lately, curiosity had been replaced with fear. She worried about AI taking over jobs, governments becoming too controlling, and wars spreading to places closer to home. It all felt overwhelming, as if the world was spiraling out of control.

Her mom knocked on the door and peeked in. “You okay, honey?”

Mila hesitated before answering, “Not really. I just… I’m scared. Everything feels so messed up, and I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Her mom sat beside her and gently said, “Mila, I know it’s scary. But you don’t have to carry this all by yourself. Have you talked to God about how you’re feeling?”

Mila frowned. “What’s the point? Can He really fix all of this?”

That night, after her mom left, Mila stared out the window at the stars. Her mom’s words lingered in her mind. She hadn’t prayed in a long time—what would she even say? Finally, she whispered, “God, I don’t know what to do. The world is falling apart, and I feel so small. Please, help me understand what I’m supposed to do.”

The next morning, Mila opened her Bible, something she hadn’t done in weeks. Her eyes fell on Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.” The words felt like they were written just for her.

Mila realized she had been trying to figure everything out on her own, relying on her limited understanding of the world. But this verse reminded her that God was bigger than wars, governments, and even AI. He was in control, even when she couldn’t see how.

That day at school, Mila noticed a poster for a community service project helping refugee families. Normally, she would’ve walked past, but something nudged her to stop. She signed up, realizing that while she couldn’t change the whole world, she could make a difference in someone’s life.

As she volunteered, Mila felt her fear being replaced by purpose. She still didn’t have all the answers, but she began to trust that God did. And that trust made all the difference.

Prayer:

Dear God,
Thank You for reminding us that we don’t have to understand everything to trust You.

Like Mila, help us to let go of our fears and depend on You with all our hearts.

Show us how to make a difference, even in small ways, and guide us along the path You’ve set for us.

When the world feels overwhelming, remind us that You are in control and that Your plans are always good.

We trust You to make our paths smooth and straight.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
