“Do not curse deaf people. Do not put anything in front of blind people that will make them trip. Instead, have respect for me. I am the Lord your God.”
—Leviticus 19:14 (NIrV)

Kiki sighed as she looked out the living room window, watching the world go by. The laughter of children playing on the street echoed faintly through the glass. She felt a familiar ache in her chest. In her wheelchair, she felt disconnected, unseen.

Her parents bustled in the kitchen, their voices tinged with exhaustion. Kiki overheard her dad muttering about bills while her mom prepared another round of medications for her. Guilt washed over her. She hated how much their lives revolved around her care since the accident two years ago.

“I’m such a burden,” Kiki whispered, tears sliding down her cheeks. “Even God seems to have turned away. Why, Lord? Why am I still here?”

Her frustration boiled over later that day when her mom offered to help her with something simple. “I can do it myself!” Kiki snapped, though she knew it wasn’t true. Her mom simply nodded, her shoulders slumping as she quietly left the room.

That night, unable to sleep, Kiki scrolled through a devotional app her friend had recommended. A verse popped up: Leviticus 19:14. She read the words slowly, then again.

“Do not curse deaf people. Do not put anything in front of blind people that will make them trip. Instead, have respect for me. I am the Lord your God.”

It was as if the words were meant for her. She realized she had been tripping over her own doubts and bitterness, cursing herself by believing she was worthless. But God’s reminder was clear: He saw her, respected her, and wanted her to see her own value.

The next morning, Kiki asked her parents to sit with her. “I need to say something,” she began, her voice shaky. “I’ve been so angry at myself, at God...even at you. I’ve let my frustration blind me to how much you love me. I’m sorry.”

Her mom reached out, tears in her eyes. “We’ve never stopped loving you, Kiki. You’re not a burden. You’re a blessing.”

From that day, Kiki began to focus on what she could do rather than what she couldn’t. She started sharing her story on social media, connecting with others who felt unseen or forgotten. With every post and every conversation, she felt God’s presence more clearly, reminding her that she was never abandoned.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,
Thank You for reminding us that every person is seen, loved, and valued in Your eyes.

Forgive us when we feel forgotten or let bitterness take hold of our hearts.

Help us to recognize our worth and to trust in Your purpose for our lives.

Thank You for giving strength to Kiki and her family, and for showing us that You are always near, even in our struggles.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
