Scripture: 2 Chronicles 17:1 - 21:3 (NIV)

In the passage from 2 Chronicles 17:1 to 21:3, we delve into the reign of King Jehoshaphat of Judah. Jehoshaphat was known for his commitment to seeking the Lord and leading the people in righteousness. This narrative provides valuable insights into the importance of faithfulness and seeking God's ways in our lives today.

Jehoshaphat began his reign by strengthening Judah's defenses and appointing officials to teach the law of the Lord throughout the land. He encouraged the people to seek the Lord and follow His commandments, leading to a time of peace and prosperity in Judah. Jehoshaphat's dedication to God's ways set an example for the people to follow, and many neighboring nations feared the Lord because of him.

One important verse from this passage is found in:

2 Chronicles 17:6 (NIV):

"His heart was devoted to the ways of the Lord; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah."

This verse encapsulates Jehoshaphat's commitment to seeking God's ways and removing anything that hindered the worship of the Lord. He wholeheartedly devoted himself to following God's commandments and leading the people in righteousness. This serves as a powerful reminder for us today to prioritize seeking God's ways above all else and to remove any idols or distractions that may lead us astray.

Despite Jehoshaphat's faithfulness, he faced challenges during his reign, including threats from neighboring nations. However, Jehoshaphat did not rely on his own strength or military prowess to overcome these challenges. Instead, he turned to the Lord in prayer and sought His guidance and protection. When faced with an attack by the Moabites, Ammonites, and Meunites, Jehoshaphat cried out to the Lord for help, acknowledging his dependence on God's power and deliverance.

In response to Jehoshaphat's prayer, the Lord intervened and miraculously defeated the enemy armies, demonstrating His faithfulness and power to save His people. Jehoshaphat's reliance on God in times of trouble serves as a powerful example for us today. It reminds us that we can trust in God's faithfulness and seek His help in every situation, knowing that He is able to deliver us from any adversity.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of King Jehoshaphat and his commitment to seeking Your ways.

Help us to follow his example by devoting our hearts to Your commandments and removing anything that hinders our worship of You.

Teach us to rely on Your strength and guidance in times of trouble, knowing that You are able to deliver us from every enemy. May our faith be unwavering, and may Your name be glorified through our lives.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
