The Triumph of Christ Over Evil: A Devotional on Revelation 17:1-20:15
December 30
Scripture: Revelation 17:1-20:15 (NIV)
In Revelation 17:1-20:15, John receives visions depicting the final defeat of evil and the establishment of Christ's kingdom on earth. These visions reveal the downfall of Babylon, the defeat of Satan, and the ultimate victory of Christ over all powers of darkness.
Revelation 17 begins with a vision of a great prostitute sitting on many waters, representing the city of Babylon and its worldly influence. The angel explains to John the meaning of the vision, revealing the judgment that will come upon Babylon for its wickedness and corruption.
An important verse in this passage is Revelation 19:11, which describes the vision of Jesus Christ riding on a white horse:
"I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war."
This verse highlights the triumphant return of Jesus Christ as the conquering King, who comes to judge the wicked and establish His righteous kingdom.
This verse holds profound relevance for us today. While the imagery of Christ's return may seem distant or symbolic, Revelation 19:11 reminds us of the certainty and reality of Christ's victorious return. It serves as a source of hope and assurance for believers, knowing that Jesus Christ will ultimately triumph over all powers of evil and establish His eternal kingdom of righteousness and peace.
As we reflect on Revelation 17:1-20:15, let us consider how this passage applies to our lives today. Let us take comfort in the assurance of Christ's ultimate victory over evil and the establishment of His kingdom. Let us also live in anticipation of Christ's return, remaining faithful and obedient to His commands as we eagerly await His glorious appearing.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, We thank You for the promise of Christ's triumphant return and the establishment of His kingdom on earth.
Give us strength and courage to endure in faithfulness and obedience as we eagerly await His coming. Help us to live as citizens of Your kingdom, shining the light of Your truth and love in a world filled with darkness.
May Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
