A Heart Cry
for Comfort
“Turn to me and show me your grace. I am lonely and hurting.”
Psalm 25:16 (NIrV)
Jean sat in her small living room, the faint ticking of the clock echoing in the quiet. Her husband, Robert, had passed away six months ago, and the silence in their once-bustling home was almost unbearable.
She looked at the empty chair where he used to sit, reading his favorite books. Tears welled up in her eyes. “How do I go on without you, Robert?” she whispered.
Jean’s days had become monotonous. Mornings were spent sipping tea, afternoons scrolling through old photo albums, and evenings staring at the television, not really watching. Her children lived far away, busy with their own lives, and her neighbors rarely stopped by.
One Sunday morning, Jean forced herself to attend church. The pastor’s message was about loneliness and God’s comforting presence. He read Psalm 25:16: “Turn to me and show me your grace. I am lonely and hurting.”
The words hit Jean straight in the heart. She thought, That’s exactly how I feel—lonely and hurting. But could God really understand her pain? Could He truly bring comfort?
That evening, Jean sat by her window, watching the sunset. Hesitantly, she whispered a prayer: “Lord, I don’t know how to feel whole again. I’m so lonely without Robert. Please, turn to me. Show me You’re still here.”
The next day, her phone rang. It was her neighbor, Sarah, inviting her to join a small group for widows at church. Jean hesitated, unsure if she had the energy for socializing. But something nudged her to say yes.
When she arrived, the women welcomed her warmly. They shared stories of loss, faith, and healing. Jean felt a flicker of hope for the first time in months. Over time, the group became a source of strength and community.
Jean realized that God had indeed turned to her, through the kindness of others and the peace she felt during her prayers. Though her grief didn’t vanish, she no longer felt alone. She discovered that even in her deepest pain, God’s grace was present, drawing her closer to Him.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for hearing our cries when we are lonely and hurting.
Just as You comforted Jean, remind us that we are never truly alone.
Help us to trust in Your grace and to seek connection with others who reflect Your love.
Give us the strength to reach out, to find healing, and to embrace the peace only You can give.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
