Finding Love
in God's Faithfulness
“You are my place of safety. I will sing praises to you. You are my God, and I can depend on you.”
Psalm 59:17 (NIrV)
Tara scrolled through her social media feed, a flood of engagement photos, anniversary celebrations, and couple selfies staring back at her. She sighed, tossing her phone onto the couch. At 27, Tara felt like the last single person in her friend group.
She had attended countless weddings, watched her friends build their lives with their partners, and yet, love always seemed to evade her. Every blind date, every spark of hope, seemed to fizzle out. The ache of loneliness gnawed at her heart.
One Friday night, as her friends gathered for a couple’s game night, Tara stayed home, unable to face the reminder of what she didn’t have. She stared out the window, her heart heavy. “God, why is it so hard for me?” she whispered. “What’s wrong with me?”
In her frustration, she opened her Bible and stumbled upon Psalm 59:17:
"You are my place of safety. I will sing praises to you. You are my God, and I can depend on you."
Tara paused, the words sinking in. It wasn’t that she didn’t believe in God’s love—she did. But she realized she had been looking for her worth and safety in someone else, not in God. That night, she prayed honestly, pouring out her fears and desires to Him.
“Lord,” she said, “I’ve been chasing love in all the wrong places. Help me to see You as my true place of safety. Teach me to trust Your timing and Your plan for my life.”
The following weeks felt different. Instead of obsessing over what she didn’t have, Tara began focusing on what she did. She volunteered at a local shelter, joined a Bible study, and reconnected with her creative hobbies. Slowly, the ache in her heart softened.
One evening, during a church outreach event, Tara struck up a conversation with someone she never would have noticed before. They talked about their faith journeys, and Tara realized that God was weaving His plan in ways she couldn’t have imagined.
Tara didn’t know if this new friendship would lead to love, but for the first time, she wasn’t afraid. She had learned to depend on God, her true place of safety, knowing He would always hold her heart, no matter where life led.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for being our place of safety and the One we can always depend on.
Forgive us when we look for love and worth in things that cannot satisfy.
Help us to trust Your perfect timing and to rest in Your unfailing love.
Teach us to seek You first and to find joy in Your presence, knowing You hold every detail of our lives in Your hands.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
