Wisdom
Builds a Home
"A house is built by wisdom. It is made secure by understanding."
Proverbs 24:3 (NIrV)
When the year began, the Johnson family never expected the storms that would come their way. Michael lost his job after the company he’d worked for shut its doors. A few weeks later, their youngest child, Emma, was diagnosed with a chronic illness that required expensive treatments. As they were grappling with these challenges, Grandma Ruth, the family’s beloved matriarch, passed away suddenly.
The family was shaken to its core. Bills began piling up, emotions ran high, and arguments became frequent. Michael felt like a failure, Sarah struggled to hold the family together, and the children, sensing the tension, withdrew into themselves.
But amidst the chaos, Sarah remembered her mother’s teachings. Grandma Ruth had always been the bedrock of wisdom in their lives, often quoting Scripture during their family gatherings. “A house is built by wisdom,” she’d say, “and made secure by understanding.”
One evening, as Sarah sat at the kitchen table, surrounded by unpaid bills, she broke down in tears. “Lord, I don’t know what to do,” she whispered. “Give me the wisdom to guide my family through this.”
Inspired by her prayer, Sarah called a family meeting the next day. She acknowledged everyone’s pain and fear but encouraged them to lean on one another rather than pulling apart. Together, they made a plan: Michael would explore new job opportunities, Sarah would connect with community resources to help with Emma’s treatments, and the older children would pitch in at home.
Slowly but surely, the family began to heal. Michael found a new job that, while different from his old one, brought him more joy and time with his family. Emma’s condition stabilized with proper care and love from her siblings. And in the evenings, they began a new tradition: reading Scripture together and sharing their gratitude for the day’s blessings.
Through the trials, Sarah saw how wisdom, rooted in God’s Word and love, could rebuild their family. By seeking understanding and trusting in God, their home became stronger than ever, not because the challenges disappeared, but because they faced them together.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that wisdom and understanding can rebuild what feels broken.
Just as Sarah turned to You in her time of need, help us to seek Your guidance when life feels overwhelming.
Teach us to rely on Your wisdom, to communicate with love, and to trust in Your provision.
May our homes be places of peace, built on the foundation of Your truth.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
