God’s Timing,
Not Ours
“But here is one thing, dear friends, you must not forget. With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years. And a thousand years are like a day.”
2 Peter 3:8, NIrV
The car hummed along the highway as Milo stared out the window, his thoughts miles away. Beside him, his best friend, Jacob, drove with an easy smile, chatting about the upcoming soccer match. But Milo wasn’t paying much attention.
“I just don’t get how you can believe all that stuff,” Milo blurted, interrupting Jacob mid-sentence.
Jacob glanced over, confused. “What stuff?”
“The Bible. Creation in seven days, miracles, all of it. It doesn’t make sense. Science proves so much, but the Bible? It’s like it’s stuck in the past,” Milo said, shaking his head.
Jacob smiled gently. “I get it. I used to feel the same way.”
Milo raised an eyebrow. “Seriously?”
“Yeah,” Jacob said. “I thought faith was at odds with reason. But then I realized something: God isn’t bound by time or the laws of science the way we are. He created it all. Just because something doesn’t make sense to us doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense to Him.”
Milo scoffed. “So, what? We just trust blindly?”
Jacob chuckled. “Not blindly. Faith grows when you start seeing things differently. Look at 2 Peter 3:8: ‘With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.’ God’s timeline and ours don’t line up because He’s infinite, beyond what we can fully grasp. The Bible isn’t meant to replace science but to show us something deeper—God’s plan and His love for us.”
Milo was quiet for a moment, watching the trees blur past. He wanted to argue but couldn’t shake the sense that maybe Jacob was onto something. “Okay,” he said finally. “But how do I even start to believe that?”
“Start with a prayer,” Jacob said. “Ask God to help you see things through His eyes, even if it feels awkward at first. Faith is a journey, not a switch you flip.”
Milo didn’t answer, but later that night, he sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the ceiling. “God,” he whispered, feeling foolish, “if You’re real, help me see it. Help me understand.”
Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank You for being eternal and beyond what we can comprehend.
Forgive us when we doubt Your Word because it doesn’t fit our limited understanding.
Help us trust in Your timing and Your ways, even when we don’t have all the answers.
Just like Milo, we ask for open hearts and minds to see things through Your perspective.
Teach us that faith and reason can work together, pointing us toward Your truth.
Guide us on this journey of faith, reminding us that Your plans are perfect, even when we don’t understand them.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
