Love

That Overcomes Distance

"It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up."
1 Corinthians 13:7 (NIrV)

Sally stared at the glowing screen of her laptop, her video call with Jack flickering in the dim light of her room. Jack’s smile was tired, a reflection of the late hour in his time zone. Living thousands of miles apart, their relationship had been a constant exercise in trust, patience, and hope.

It wasn’t easy. Some days, the time difference and the unreliable internet connection felt like a cruel barrier. Other days, their conversations left more questions than answers—how long could they sustain this? Would one of them have to uproot their life?

“I miss you,” Sally whispered. Her voice cracked, revealing the frustration she tried so hard to suppress. “Sometimes, I just wonder if it’s worth all this struggle.”

Jack sighed, his brow furrowed in thought. “I miss you too, Sally. But maybe… maybe we need to pray about this. We’ve been leaning on our own strength too much.”

Later that evening, Sally knelt beside her bed, her hands clasped tightly together. “Lord, I’m so confused. I love Jack, but this distance feels impossible. Help us trust You to guide our steps. Show us what love really means, even when it’s hard.”

Over the next few weeks, something shifted. They started praying together at the end of every call, asking God to protect their relationship and give them wisdom. They began to see their challenges not as obstacles but as opportunities to grow closer to God and to each other.

Jack shared the verse he’d read that morning: “It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up.”

“That’s what we need to remember,” Jack said. “Our love has to reflect God’s love—patient, hopeful, and willing to endure.”

Sally felt a sense of peace she hadn’t experienced before. Yes, the distance was hard, and yes, the future was uncertain. But they were learning to trust God to strengthen their bond and guide their decisions.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for showing us the true meaning of love through Your Word.

Help us to love like You do—always trusting, always hoping, and never giving up.

Lord, we lift up relationships that face challenges, whether it’s distance, miscommunication, or uncertainty.

Help us remember that Your love is the foundation on which we can build trust and endurance.

Strengthen us when we feel weak, and guide us to make decisions that honor You.

Thank You for never giving up on us. May we reflect that same perseverance in our relationships.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
