The Price of

Convenience

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIrV)

Cooper was always in a rush. His mornings felt like a race against the clock, and he never seemed to win. Waking up late, his first instinct was to grab his phone and check his emails as he rushed to get ready. There was no time for breakfast, so he’d simply grab a coffee on his way out the door, hoping it would hold him over until lunch.

Lunch was just as chaotic. While driving to his next appointment, he’d swing through the nearest fast food joint, ordering a burger with fries. It was quick, easy, and didn’t require him to take a break. Eating while driving became a routine—he didn’t even taste the food. But he didn’t mind; he had more important things to focus on.

By dinner, Cooper was exhausted. He didn’t have the energy to cook, and besides, it was easier to call for a pizza delivery. It came right to his door, hot and ready to eat. Cooper didn’t think much about what he was putting into his body—he just knew it was convenient.

But after weeks of this fast-paced lifestyle, Cooper started to notice things weren’t right. He’d feel sluggish, often fatigued after simple tasks, and his once sharp mind felt foggy. One evening, after rushing through another pizza dinner, he collapsed onto the couch. His stomach ached, and he felt a pressure in his chest. At first, he dismissed it as stress, but the discomfort lingered.

A visit to the doctor confirmed that Cooper was dealing with the early stages of high blood pressure, and his unhealthy eating habits were a major factor. The doctor warned him that if he didn’t make some changes, he could face more serious health issues down the road.

Sitting in his car after the appointment, Cooper thought about the past few months. He’d been so busy focusing on work, chasing success, that he’d ignored the importance of taking care of his body—the one thing he had that allowed him to do everything else. He’d never really considered how his daily choices affected his overall well-being, let alone how they aligned with his values or faith.

He remembered a verse he had read once, but it hadn’t quite sunk in until now: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” For the first time, Cooper understood that his habits didn’t just affect his health—they affected his ability to honor God with his body, the vessel He had entrusted him with.

It was a hard truth to swallow, but in that moment, Cooper realized he had a choice. He could keep going down the same path, ignoring the warning signs, or he could make a change, not just for his health, but for the glory of God.

With a deep breath, Cooper made a commitment to start small. He would begin by eating regular, nutritious meals. He’d find time to prepare his food, to honor his body with the care it needed. Most importantly, he would stop seeing his body as just a tool to get through the day, and instead, as a gift from God that deserved respect and attention.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of my body.

Forgive me for the times I’ve neglected it, choosing convenience over care.

I know that I am called to honor You with everything I do, even in how I treat my body.

Help me to make healthy choices that will allow me to serve You and others with energy and strength.

Please guide me in making changes that not only benefit my health but also reflect my love and gratitude for You.

Lord, I ask for the discipline to care for my body, the wisdom to make better choices, and the strength to follow through.

Thank You for Your constant grace and for reminding me that even in the smallest choices, I can glorify You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
