A Difficult

Choice

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”
2 Corinthians 6:14 (NIrV)

Victoria had always been focused on her faith. Her love for Jesus was at the center of everything she did, from the way she treated others to the decisions she made each day. But when she met Logan at the gym, something shifted. Logan was everything Victoria had never expected—tall, handsome, and full of muscles. He had a confidence that made him stand out in a room, and for the first time in a long while, she felt truly seen.

They began to spend more time together, going on dates, laughing, and sharing stories. Logan was kind, thoughtful, and always respectful of her. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and Victoria found herself falling for him. But there was something about Logan that she couldn’t quite shake—a belief, or rather a lack of it, that began to seep into their conversations.

One evening, as they sat across from each other at a cozy café, the topic of faith came up. Victoria hesitated, unsure of how to approach it, but before she could even say much, Logan spoke up. “I don’t really believe in all that stuff. Religion, I mean. It’s just a big con. It causes wars and divides people. I don’t buy into that old man in the sky nonsense. It’s like believing in Santa Claus.”

Victoria’s heart sank. She had known that Logan wasn’t particularly religious, but she hadn’t expected such harsh words. She tried to brush it off, laughing nervously. “It’s not like that. It’s about love, faith, and connection with God,” she said, hoping he would understand.

But Logan wasn’t having it. “I’m a grown man, Victoria. I don’t need a god to tell me what’s right and wrong. I make my own decisions.”

Victoria sat back in her chair, stunned. She had never encountered such a direct rejection of her faith, and it stung deeply. But as the evening went on, she found herself continuing to make excuses for Logan. Maybe he just didn’t understand. Maybe he had been hurt by religion in the past. She even invited him to church the next Sunday, hoping that maybe seeing it firsthand would help him understand her faith better.

Logan refused, his face unreadable. “I’m not interested in that,” he said flatly.

In the days that followed, Victoria couldn’t shake the growing unease in her heart. She liked Logan. She cared about him deeply. But as their relationship progressed, the differences in their core beliefs became more apparent. She started to feel torn. Could she continue a relationship with someone who didn’t share her faith? Was she willing to ignore the red flags for the sake of love?

Her mind was a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts and emotions. She longed for Logan’s affection, but she also knew that her love for Jesus was non-negotiable. One evening, as she sat alone in her room, the words of 2 Corinthians 6:14 came to mind: “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers.” The verse hit her like a wave. She realized that no matter how much she cared for Logan, she couldn’t ignore the fact that their values were in direct conflict. Her faith in God needed to be the foundation of her life, and she couldn’t compromise on that.

It wasn’t an easy decision, and she cried as she prayed, asking God for clarity and strength. But in that moment, she knew what she had to do. She had to let go of her relationship with Logan and trust that God had something better for her. It was a painful choice, but she knew it was the right one.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the love You have shown me.

Thank You for the gift of Your guidance, even when it’s hard to follow.

Lord, I know that I can’t compromise my faith, but sometimes the choices are difficult.

Please give me the wisdom to know when to let go and the strength to trust in Your plan.

Help me to stay true to the path You’ve set before me, even when it feels like I’m walking alone.
Thank You for always being with me, and for loving me enough to show me what is best for my life.

Help me to honor You in all my relationships, and to trust that You will bring people into my life who share my heart for You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
