Honor the Lord
with Your Wealth
“Honor the Lord with your wealth. Give him the first share of all your crops.”
Proverbs 3:9 (NIrV)
Jeremy lived a life most people envied. He had a successful career, a beautiful home, and all the luxuries money could buy. But while his bank account flourished, his heart remained empty. Jeremy avoided giving to others, convinced that his hard-earned wealth was his alone. When asked to contribute to charities or help those in need, he often replied, “I worked for this. Why should I give it away?”
One cold winter evening, Jeremy’s elderly neighbor, Mrs. Fletcher, knocked on his door. She explained that her heater had broken, and she couldn’t afford the repair. Jeremy offered a sympathetic smile and promised to “think about it,” knowing he wouldn’t act. He returned to his plush leather couch and scrolled through his phone, dismissing her plight.
Later that night, Jeremy stumbled upon a story about a philanthropist who had donated most of his fortune to help struggling families. The man’s words struck a nerve: “True wealth is found in what you give, not what you keep.” Jeremy felt a pang of guilt but quickly brushed it off. “That’s not for me,” he thought. Still, the unease lingered.
Unable to sleep, Jeremy decided to pray. “God, why do I feel so restless? What are You trying to tell me?” After his prayer, he opened his Bible and landed on Proverbs 3:9: “Honor the Lord with your wealth. Give him the first share of all your crops.”
The verse hit home. Jeremy realized his wealth wasn’t truly his—it was a gift from God. The next day, he called a repairman to fix Mrs. Fletcher’s heater and covered the entire cost. For the first time in years, he felt a joy he couldn’t explain. Inspired, Jeremy began volunteering at a local shelter and setting aside a portion of his income to support those in need.
Jeremy learned that true wealth isn’t about accumulation but generosity. By honoring God with what he had, he discovered a deeper purpose and peace.
Prayer:
Thank You for the blessings You’ve given us, even when we don’t deserve them.
Help us to remember that everything we have comes from You.
Teach us to honor You by giving generously and helping those in need.
Fill our hearts with joy as we reflect Your love through our actions.
May we always trust You to provide as we share what we’ve been given.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
